'Pinterest is a virtual pinboard that lets you organise and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize favorite recipes. You can browse pinboards that have been created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.' (http://www.pinterest.com/about/)
You can also use Pinterest to give you amazing ideas for your classroom! There is an EDUCATION pinboard made especially for teachers by teachers and many people share their ideas and work. What's even better is that for most images and ideas that you find, there is often a link to a blog page or webpage where you can find other interesting things to use. There are often lots of freebies available for instant download. Just a warning - this is a predominantly American site and so a lot of the resources are based on that curriculum, but it does not take much tweaking to make it suit our own needs!
How to get started...
- Sign up to Pinterset - it's free and easy! There are no annoying pop ups and reminders sent to your email either, so that's a bonus.
- You can edit your profile and you can also follow friends or people who share like interests.
- Start browsing the home page and see what you find! If you like anything, you can create boards on your own page. To create your own board just click on create, name your board and you're all set.
- Once you find images that you like and you want to keep, repin them to any one of your boards.
- Like most things that are new to us, we only need to have a look around to become more familiar with how to use it!
You will find that you can spend many hours on Pinterest finding some truly amazing ideas... Happy pinning!
